Fall nail trends 2024

Even though fall is already in full swing, I can’t help but dedicate my first blogpost to this beautiful season. Let’s dive right into the fall nail trends because trust me we’ve got a lot to cover.

  1. Tortoise nails

I do think this design is every nail techs nightmare in the beginning because trying out this technique isn’t always easy. Most of the time the first try outs of tortoise turn out as nails dipped in poop. You have to adjust the colours really well but when all those dark warm colours come together, you’ve mastered the perfect fall nail art design.

This design is great for every client who likes a little bit of nail art but doesn’t want to go all out. And when you do like to go all out, a pop of colour is a good solution to make this design brighter.

2. Cappuccino nails

And other coffee shenanigans. I don’t know what it is with fall and nails that look like a good espresso or latte. But whenever the season starts, suddenly clients are going for the brown shades (that most of the time stay forgotten when summer is here) As a nail tech I do like the differences that these colours bring. Even though most nail techs think fall and winter are the more ‘boring’ seasons regarding nail art, I think it brings a good challenge to make this art stand out. Let’s check out a few ‘cappuccino nail art’ options.

3. Mismatched mani

The mismatched mani is one of my personal favourites. It’s such a fun way to experience with colours you may never pick. One of the best colour combo’s according to my opinion is brown and blue. Later on, you’ll see I mention it again in this post. So I must really love it huh?

4. Black and white details

If you’re not a big fan of colours like brown or nude, you can definitely experiment with black and white. The perfect base for a design like this is either using (or asking for) a BIAB (like The Gelbottle 019 or Teddy) or go for a more creamy BIAB (like The Gelbottle Cupcake or Bunny)

5. Chrome nails

Chrome nails, either you love it or you hate it. For me, personally, I think I’m in the hating team. This is a technique that sometimes is very messy to work with and that’s just something I don’t like. However, I can’t ignore the fact that chrome nails just have that little bit of extra vavavoom so that’s why I’m including it in my fall nail art list. Bonus points if you combine it with a brown shade this season.

6. Red shades

I couldn’t possibly write about fall nail designs if I didn’t include red in this. Whenever fall starts I KNOW clients are asking for this colour. Besides the fact that red is the most tricky colour to paint (paint only once in the cuticle and your nails look like bloody fingers) I do actually enjoy painting a frrrresh set of red nails. It is however, forbidden to talk during that nail session. Full focus. Anyway, here are some beautiful red nails in alllll shapes and tints.

7. 3D-chrome nails

This nail art style is something I don’t do at my salon because most of my clients don’t ask for it or I haven’t perfected some of the techniques yet. This nail trend is something I see regularly on my FYP of Instagram reels or TikTok during fall. It contains bold 3D abstract chrome art mixed with airbrushed details in brown or green. Also snakeskin is one that often gets drawn on the nails too. I like this trend but for now I’ll pass. Maybe I’ll do this one next year when this trend is still here (like those damned glazed donut nails)

8. Brown and blue

Now this is a trend I really really like. It’s just such an unexpected colour combo that I had to include in this list. It doesn’t matter if you pick a warmer shade of brown and mix it with a cold electric blue, it’s always a match.

9. Animal prints

The tortoise deserved a mention on its own but is technically an animal print. I feel like this one is often forgotten or is just seen as something butt ugly. Not many clients have a warm feeling for animal prints which I don’ t understand because I love it. It is again very easy to paint (with a little practice) and the possibilities are endless!

10. Nude

I didn’t forgot my clean BIAB girls. Yes, having a good nude shade on your nails is definitely a fall trend too. I think it’s even an all season trend. Fall is the perfect time to choose a more warm tint then the usual clean pinkish shades you like to pick. The perfect fall BIAB’s for me are TGB Cupcake, TGB 017, TGB Chai, TGB Toffee and Madame Polkadots Apricot.
